- Implementation around your process
Building Controls covers commercial HVAC settings, schedules and control strategies. Serious-IAQ provides installed indoor-air-quality monitors, local touch displays, historical readings, alerts and floorplan views.
Common use cases
- Coordinate an energy portfolio: group distributed resources into VPPs, review availability and plan operating schedules.
- Bring partner resources into a program: organize installer, vendor and customer sites in an aggregation environment.
- Connect energy-management systems: exchange data and control information between DSO, enterprise and aggregator environments.
- Manage commercial HVAC: maintain operating schedules, setbacks and temperature thresholds across facilities.
- Investigate indoor conditions: locate monitors on floorplans, review trends and receive configured alerts.
- Review storage and thermal equipment: follow battery state, power flow, boiler temperatures and operating status.
Core capabilities
Distributed resources and VPP operation
Organize resources by ISO, hub or load zone, node, or a custom grouping. Collect asset data, forecast load availability, compare operating scenarios and optimize schedules around program requirements. Portfolio data can support measurement and verification, meter-data quality and settlement workflows.
Building operation and indoor conditions
Building Controls supports remote HVAC access, operating schedules, equipment alerts and custom control logic. Serious-IAQ provides readings and history at the device, with remote access and text or email alerts through the LTE Gateway. Floorplan views help teams identify the location associated with a reading.
Energy-aware control strategies
Projects can consider time-of-use tariffs, solar production, distributed resources and demand response participation. Equipment compatibility, market eligibility and the commercial arrangement determine the strategy for each deployment.

Integrations and equipment
Serious Controls DERMS natively supports OpenADR 2.0b. Permissioned APIs provide connections to internal systems, distributed resources and selected vendors. Deployment can combine software integration, in-house hardware and integrated third-party equipment.
For an equipment review, share the manufacturer, model, protocol or API documentation, network requirements and intended control or monitoring workflow. This helps establish the connection method and commissioning work for your site.
For Serious-IAQ, include monitor locations, available power and LTE Gateway requirements. For building controls, include existing thermostats, sensors, HVAC equipment and operating schedules.
Deployment and implementation services
The enterprise DERMS platform is installed and managed on the customer’s network. Licensing, updates, maintenance and support are defined in the applicable agreement. The deployment architecture for building controls and monitoring is reviewed against the selected equipment and remote-access needs.
Through Serious Partners, consulting and implementation services support the work surrounding a VPP deployment:
- Program strategy, use cases and customer value propositions.
- Technology and vendor selection, software consulting and electrification planning.
- Customer communication, outreach materials and training.
- Facility engineering, contractor selection, installer guidelines and field coordination.
How to start a project
A useful first conversation starts with the operation you want to improve. Prepare the following information where available:
- Sites and resources: locations, building types, resource types and an equipment inventory.
- Operating goals: monitoring, control, aggregation, reporting or energy-program requirements.
- Connectivity: current controllers, protocols, API access and network constraints.
- People and delivery: who owns the equipment, who operates it, the implementation team and your target timeline.
The project then moves through scope definition, equipment connectivity, configuration, and monitoring and review. See the deployment steps or speak with the team.
Common questions
Which Serious Controls solution should I start with?
Start with the operating responsibility you need to manage. DSO DERMS addresses distribution networks; eDERMS addresses enterprise portfolios; aDERMS addresses aggregated partner resources. DERMS Orchestrator connects DERMS environments. For facility equipment, HVAC, batteries, boilers or process controls, start with BMS & Automation. Explore the solution families.
What is the difference between DERMS and a virtual power plant?
DERMS is the software used to manage distributed energy resources. A virtual power plant, or VPP, is a coordinated group of resources. Serious Controls DERMS provides tools to organize, monitor, forecast and schedule the resources in a VPP. Read about DERMS and VPPs.
Can I connect equipment that is already installed?
An integration review starts with the manufacturer, model, supported protocol or API, power supply and network access. Serious Controls reviews existing equipment and new systems to define the connection approach and any additional hardware or integration work. Review integration requirements.
Does every product include every feature?
The solution family, connected equipment and project scope determine the functions available in a deployment. Discuss the monitoring, controls, forecasting, alerts and reporting you need when defining the project. Discuss your requirements.
Where is the software deployed?
The enterprise DERMS platform is described as installed and managed on your organization’s network. Building Controls provides cloud-accessible remote operation, and Serious-IAQ uses the LTE Gateway for remote access. Confirm the architecture for the particular solution you select. See how a deployment fits together.
How do we arrange pricing, a demonstration or a project review?
Contact the Serious Controls team with your sites, resource types, equipment list and operating goals. Pricing, licensing, implementation, maintenance and support are defined for the project and its agreement. Contact the team.
Can Serious Controls help with implementation?
Yes. Services cover VPP program design, technology and vendor selection, customer engagement, facility engineering, installer guidelines and contractor coordination. The work included is agreed as part of the project scope. Explore implementation services.
Where can I find privacy and service terms?
The Privacy Policy explains information handling, including mobile information and SMS consent. The Terms and Conditions cover use of the services and the aDERMS operational SMS program. Read the Privacy Policy.
